Military Ball DJ in San Diego

I DJ'd the U.S. Navy Submarine Ball at Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego — over 600 guests, full formal protocol, and the Commanding Officer in the room. There was no version of that night where "close enough" was acceptable.

A military ball isn't a party with a schedule attached — it's a ceremony with a party at the end of it. The National Anthem and Colors, the memorial tribute to those lost, the toasts — each moment has its own rhythm, and some of them call for the music to go completely silent, not just quiet. Getting that right matters more than any playlist.

What I bring to a Military Ball

I understand the sequence of the evening

Music built around your brand

The National Anthem and Colors, the invocation, a memorial tribute, remarks from your guest speaker, dinner, the toasts, and cake-cutting — I plan the music around this order, not around a generic timeline.

No fixed sound: fashion-forward, house, or deep house for a rebrand; high-energy Top 40, R&B, EDM, pop, or hip-hop for a holiday party. By request, or a sample playlist to match your tone.

Silence exactly where it's required

Silence exactly where it's required

Certain moments — a memorial tribute above all — call for complete quiet or a single somber piece, not background music. I treat this as non-negotiable, not optional.

Direct coordination with your ball committee

Direct coordination with your ball committee

Most balls are planned by a volunteer committee, not a professional event planner. I coordinate directly with whoever is running point — no confusion about who to talk to.

Every command's moment, cued to the second

Support for the moments that matter

For a Submarine Force ceremony, I built individual walk-up music for eleven different commands recognized that evening — each with its own song, timed to the exact second, including clean edits where the room required it. That's not a playlist. That's a script, built in advance, command by command.

Rehearsal dinner included

For military balls, I'm part of the rehearsal dinner the night before as well — so the coordination, the pacing, and the feel of the event are already familiar before the main night begins.

Full sound and lighting production, managed for you

For a ballroom of 600+ guests, DJ equipment alone isn't enough. I source and coordinate the sound system company and lighting company directly — your committee gets one point of contact instead of three separate vendors to manage.

Music that works across every rank and generation in the room

Junior enlisted, senior officers, spouses, and family — the mix has to work for everyone, not just the youngest table. For the dance floor specifically, I build the set around what your committee wants and send it for approval in advance, rather than a fixed genre I bring to every ball.

The Process

01

01

Understand

I learn your audience, your program (speeches, awards, presentations), your company culture, and where the energy needs to build or stay low-key.

02

02

Design

I build the music direction and a written timeline that maps to your actual program — so the transition from networking to dinner to dance floor is planned, not guessed.

03

03

Execute & Adapt

On the day, I follow the run sheet, coordinate live with your team or AV, and read the room in real time — adjusting without ever losing the thread of your event.

Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego · 600+ Guests

This was a formal military ceremony honoring 125 years of the Submarine Force — an Admiral, a Commodore, and senior Navy leadership in the room, alongside 600+ guests spanning every rank. The evening moved through the National Anthem and Colors, the invocation, a memorial tribute to submarines lost (the Tolling of the Boats), remarks from the guest speaker, dinner, and the official toasts.

The part that mattered most for the DJ role: eleven different commands were individually recognized and called to the floor that night, each with its own cued walk-up song — timed to the exact second, with clean edits built in wherever the room required it. That kind of precision doesn't happen the night of. It's built in advance, command by command, before a single guest arrives.

I also sourced and managed the sound system company and lighting company for the ballroom, and was part of the rehearsal dinner the evening before — so by the time the ball began, the pacing and coordination were already familiar to everyone involved.
